Cylinder Studs: Fasteners for your cylinder.
We have all engine parts for your scooter or moped. Your cylinder kit consists of many parts that sometimes need to be replaced. Cylinder bolts or studs are required to attach the cylinder to the crankcase. The cylinder studs usually have to be mounted in sets of four.
A cylinder stud, a long threatend rod.
Cylinder studs are long threaded rods that are screwed into the crankcase and that secure the cylinder and cylinder head to the crankcase. The cylinder studs are mounted in combination with a matching nut. Cylinder studs can be of various lengths and are usually made of steel. On our website you can choose from cylinder studs from different brands such as Piaggio, Novascoot or RMS.
How do I remove the cylinder studs?
The right tools are required for each job. The (dis)assembly of studs can often simply be done with two open-end or ring wrenches. First remove the cylinder head and cylinder, then mount two matching nuts onto the stud. Firmly twist them together with the two wrenches. Loosening the stud can usually be done by placing the wrench on the lower nut. Using a penetrating oil can make the job easier. Mounting a new stud can be done in the same way, but for this you have to put the wrench on the upper nut. If you really want to do it in a professional way, or if the thread is too damaged to tighten the nuts, we have this BIKSERVICE stud disassembly wrench.
A damaged stud must be replaced.
When you work on your cylinder kit, always check that all parts are in good state. Because the cylinder nuts have to be mounted on the studs with a lot of force, it is important that the thread of the studs and nuts is okay, if not, they need to be replaced. To find the right studs for your motorcycle, we recommend that you set the vehicle filter on the homepage to the correct brand and type. Always check whether the suggested stud size corresponds to the old studs. Some cylinder studs come individually, others in sets of four, with or without nuts.
